Three friends walking through turquoise shallows on a white-sand beach in Montego Bay
Ramp & Reggae presents

Jamaica, like you know someone.

Where to stay, what to eat, what to skip and how to do the island right, from a travel advisor who has spent years living, traveling and booking clients across Jamaica. Not a listicle. A friend who knows.

Hi, I'm Nikki.

I book Jamaica for a living. This is what I tell people before they pay for anything.

I'm first-generation Jamaican. Both of my parents were born here, and every summer of my childhood was spent at my Grandma Beryl's house in the hills above Kingston. Now Montego Bay is home base, Negril is where I go to breathe, and I've sent enough people to enough hotels to know which ones are worth your money and which ones just have a nice Instagram.

Ramp & Reggae is the version of Jamaica you get when you know someone: the beach locals actually use, the driver I trust, the resort I'd spend my own money on and the one I'd never book for you. Every recommendation here carries a stamp so you can see whether I'm speaking from experience or from a brochure.

Where this comes from

Two people are responsible for all of this: my grandmother and my father.

Grandma Beryl lived in Downcastle, high in the mountains above Stony Hill on the Kingston side of the island. That's where my parents sent me every summer, and where my Auntie Arlene looked after me. Soursop on the veranda, the river on a Saturday, the long drive down to the beach with my dad.

So when I say Jamaica, like you know someone, I mean it literally. This isn't a place I discovered on a press trip. It's the place that raised me for three months a year.

Ten things I wish everyone knew before booking Jamaica.

The conversation I have with every client on the first call, written down. The C5 form, whether Club Mobay is worth it, why the map is lying to you, who to get in a car with, money, driving, the two days you have to leave the resort, and what's actually open this season.

It'll save you a few hundred dollars and at least one bad afternoon in a car.

You'll get the PDF on the next page and, now and then, a note from Nikki about what's open, what's new and what to skip. Unsubscribe any time. Privacy.

Where I'd send you

Three places I'd put my own name on.

Montego Bay · Beach

Doctor's Cave Beach

The best beach in the city, and I've had the argument. US$8 in, chairs to rent, water like glass by ten in the morning. Go early, leave when the cruise crowd arrives.

S Hotel Jamaica

My favorite hotel in Montego Bay and I haven't even stayed there. I sent a client. She came back and told me it was the best decision of her trip. It sits right on Doctor's Cave, which is the whole point.

Negril · West End

The cliffs at Rockhouse

Negril has a beach side and a cliff side, and the cliffs are where I go to breathe. Cove swims, sunset from a ledge, dinner over lit water. Not for people who need a swim-up bar.

Ask what's open. This year it matters more than ever.

Hurricane Melissa came through western Jamaica at the end of October 2025. Negril, Ocho Rios and Kingston were mostly spared; Montego Bay and the South Coast took the hit. Most hotels are back. Not all.

Or skip the planning entirely

Let Ramp & Reggae book it.

Flights, the right hotel for your people, a driver I trust, Club Mobay, the excursions worth doing and the ones to skip. Start to finish, one point of contact, and someone who has actually stood on that beach.

Couples, families with small kids, girls' trips, milestone birthdays, first-timers who don't want to get it wrong. Tell me who's going and what you want the week to feel like, and I'll come back with a plan.
